Postdoctoral Research Fellow - Exploring the Intricate and Dynamic Interplay Between Microglia
Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing
Cologne, Germany
The “Neuroimmunology of Ageing” group at the Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing is devoted to exploring the intricate and dynamic interplay between microglia - the resident immune cells of the central nervous system - and neurons, with a particular focus on how this interaction is altered in the setting of neurodegenerative disease. We are seeking a highly motivated and creative postdoctoral fellow with a PhD (or near completion) in neuroscience, immunology, molecular or ce llular biology, or a related field. The ideal candidate should be capable of working independently, bringing critical thinking and a problem-solving mindset to the group.
Your tasks
- Design and perform studies on microglia-neuron interactions in neurodegeneration
- Analyze data independently and develop innovative experiments
- Mentor junior lab members
- Assist in preparing funding proposals and fellowship applications
- Support general lab organization and scientific administrative duties
- Present research findings at conferences and seminars
- Stay current with relevant literature
Your qualifications
- Strong track record of scientific accomplishments is essential
- Prior hands-on experience in cell culture, biochemical assays, and microscopy is highly desirable
- We particularly value individuals who think creatively and are eager to push boundaries in experimental design
- A FELASA certificate for work with laboratory animals would be considered a strong asset
- Candidates with expertise in human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) technology - particularly in differentiating iPSCs into neurons or microglia - and/or proficiency with CRISPR/Cas9-mediated genome editing will be given preferential consideration
- Experience in supervising or mentoring junior lab members, such as master's or undergraduate students, is considered a strong asset and reflects the col laborative spirit we foster in our team
