The purpose of this role is to support the development of new product formulations providing support to the automated equipment and in line offline analytical equipment. Additionally, the scientist also has the potential to support further automated platforms and personal care product development evaluation.

In addition, the candidate will also have strong logistic and technical skills as well as report writing, problem solving skills. It is expected the ideal candidate will work in a flexible manner exhibiting high energy, self-motivation and resourcefulness. Additionally, will be able to think logically and have the ability to effectively collaborate with and communicate scientific ideas readily.

  • Organisation, Scheduling and Planning of Routine requests from multiple client facilities to be progressed in the client facility, utilizing various automated platforms.
  • Review Design of Experiments and progress automated runs.
  • Support automated formulation platforms with a good level of proficiency.
  • Manage Logistics, COSHH, Safety for routine requests from different client areas ensuring sample integrity, project timelines and demands are met.
  • Run and Report any routine requests on automated equipment (including Statistics).
  • Conduct associated in-line / off-line product quality assessment of personal care products.
  • Preparation of samples including extraction of samples for analytical assessment and characterisation utilising various chromatographical analytical techniques.
  • Conduct microbial work including preparation and routine workflow operations, media and plate preparation, microbial inoculation and automated analysis.
  • Ensure all pre-calibration of equipment is conducted.
  • Report and document any issues or non-conformances to the relevant client contact.
  • Assist in the preparation and review and revision of area documentation e.g. SOP's, Reports, Protocols.
  • To document data as dictated by current client policies and procedures.
  • To ensure that all documentation is carried out on time, is accurate and legible and conforms to the relevant quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Degree or above in a relevant scientific discipline (Biology, Chemistry or Microbiology).
  • Some industrial background would be ideal.
  • Experience of microbiological techniques is essential. Including media and plate preparation and microbial inoculation.
  • Exposure to LC/MS and GC/MS would be a distinct advantage.
  • Structured approach to investigating problems to resolution.
  • Ability to organise, Schedule and Plan work with great efficiency and compliance.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, both internally and externally. Ability to build strong interpersonal relationships with colleagues driving collaboration.
  • Ability to maintain operational effectiveness of automated equipment and monitor / report intervention detail and frequency thereby off setting down time.
  • Passionate about quality and customer service is essential.
