Research Engineer in Protein Biochemistry

Position description:

We are looking for a Research engineer on a 2-year fixed-term contract funded by the Fondation pour la Recherche Médicale to join our dynamic team and contribute to our innovative research projects. The candidate will be involved in three focus projects of the laboratory in biochemistry and cellular biology. The laboratory is interested in the functional and structural properties of nicotinic receptors found at the synapse and adhesion GPCRs found in the auditory system.

Main missions:

  • Molecular biology:
    • Cloning and site-directed mutagenesis.
  • Production of recombinant proteins and nanobodies:
    • Design and optimization of protocols for the production of recombinant proteins;
    • Use of bacterial, eukaryotic, and in vitro expression systems;
    • Purification of proteins by various chromatographic techniques.
  • In vitro and in cell functional assays:
    • Use of biophysical methods to measure the structural and functional properties of proteins (fluorescence, activity tests, …) in vitro and in mammalian cells;
    • Electrophysiology on Xenopus oocytes.

Required profile:

  • Education: Engineer degree or equivalent master’s degree in biology, biochemistry or a related field;
  • Experience: Not required.

Technical skills:

  • Mastery of biochemistry, molecular biology, and cell culture techniques (required);
  • Experience in the production and purification of recombinant proteins (required);
  • Knowledge in electrophysiology (optional);
  • Personal qualities: Autonomy, initiative, scientific rigor, motivation, and the ability to work in a team and communicate effectively.
