Post-doctoral Position on Host-vector Transmission of Zika Virus Using Mouse Models

Post-doctoral Position on Host-vector Transmission of Zika Virus Using Mouse Models

Institut Pasteur

Paris, France

The Mouse Genetics Laboratory is recruiting a post-doctoral fellow to study the role of host genetic determinants in the transmission of Zika virus between mice and mosquitoes in a collaborative project between the Mouse Genetics Laboratory and the Insect-Virus Interactions Unit. We have previously characterized the susceptibility of more than 30 mouse strains to Zika virus infection and identified large variations in clinical severity, plasma viral load and neurological alterations following inoculation. Besides, the Insect-Virus Interactions Unit has previously identified transmissibility variations between ZIKV strains and differences in the ability of diverse mosquito populations to transmit ZIKV. In this collaborative project, we aim at characterizing the mechanisms underlying the transmission of Zika virus using an integrated approach that considers genetic variation in the host, the virus and the mosquito vector. The post-doctoral fellow will more specifically investigate on the host side using recently established experimental systems to study the dynamics of Zika virus infection in mouse models and during virus transmission between the mosquito and the mammalian host. The ultimate goal is to identify host genes and mechanisms that drive variations in host-vector transmission of Zika virus, a matter of public health importance.

Successful candidates must have conceptual and experimental expertise in mouse models and virology. Knowledge of mouse genetics and experience with mouse models of infection will be appreciated. We are looking for strongly motivated and highly collaborative candidates having good communication skills in English and a sense of team spirit. Candidates must hold a PhD in genetics or virology. One first author publication is mandatory.
