Senior Research Scientist: Translational Movement Biomechanics, Remote Monitoring and Digital Outcomes

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the execution of ongoing research projects (planning, implementation, management, follow-up, supervision, data analysis), in particular a European project developing Smart Implants.
  • Carry out, plan and set-up research projects with the team and independently using lab-based, wearable and digital technologies for patient assessment in a translational manner with a focus on applications in orthopaedics and sports medicine.
  • Contribute to, advance and initiate the use of new technologies and the development of new tools and methods for clinical movement analysis, remote activity monitoring and digital outcome assessments (devices, signals, algorithms, parameters, validation)
  • Support the team and autonomously search for and prepare research grant proposals at national, regional and international level.
  • Write and contribute to publishing scientific articles for peer-reviewed international journals.
  • Stay updated with the current scientific literature related to the domain of expertise of HOSD and disseminate this bibliography to the team.
  • Participate in and manage the internal (LIH, transversal) and external cooperations (e.g. CHL, LIROMS, SportFabrik, Uni.lu) and engage in national Luxembourgish, regional and international networks.
  • Disseminate results and activities to the scientific community, stakeholders and the general public through the relevant communication channels and events.

Key Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • PhD in the area of clinical biomechanics, biomedical engineering, movement analysis or related fields, ideally in an orthopaedics or sports medicine context;
  • Solid knowledge, hands-on experience and vision in the translational and clinical research use of wearable sensors, (marker-less) motion capture, including computer vision techniques or apps tracking motion, activity and outcomes;
  • Experience or interest to develop skills in a) programming and supervising algorithm or app development for motion analysis and activity monitoring and/or b) data science approaches, including machine learning and artificial intelligence;
  • Experience, ideally with some track record in executing and managing third party funded research projects;
  • Familiarity with setting up, including ethical approval procedures and running clinical research protocols and studies;
  • Ability to identify and communicate problems and suggestions for possible solutions in a clear way;
  • Fluency in English with advanced writing skills for scientific publications and grant applications;
  • Language skills in at least one of the national languages (DE, FR and LU) is seen as an asset;
  • Excellent planning and communication skills, ability to work in complex, multi-disciplinary teams and to coordinate work, including supervision of interns, students or technical staff.
