Role and salary

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Researcher to advance computational and experimental methods for multimodal bioimaging and biosensing within the COMET (Computational Imaging and Modelling in Medical Technologies) PROFI8 project. This position is part of the Research Group (link), led by Professor Polina Kuzhir at the Centre for Photonics Sciences and the Department of Physics and Mathematics.

The role involves contributing to the development of computational microscopy, a field that combines imaging technologies with data analysis and modelling to explore complex biological systems in greater detail. This position includes, but is not limited to, enhancing imaging capabilities, integrating diverse data sources, and applying advanced computational approaches to improve visualization and interpretation.

The work supports a broad range of applications in biomedical research and diagnostics, with the opportunity to shape innovative methods and tools. The successful candidate will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to push the boundaries of what can be seen and understood in biological imaging and sensing.

Our requirements and expectations 

Requirements

  • a doctoral degree in physics, photonics, computer science, applied mathematics, biomedical engineering, or a related field;
  • good teaching skills;
  • good skills in spoken and written English.

Teaching skills are evaluated based on the documents submitted by the applicant. The evaluation of the teaching skills will focus on your teaching and supervision experience, as well as on your views related to the planning and implementation of teaching, as presented in your teaching portfolio (see the required attachments of the application).

To succeed in the position, you will need

  • proven research experience in one or several of the following areas: experimental optics, imaging or sensing methods, data analysis, computational techniques;
  • feasibility to conduct research on the topic;
  • a strong track record in research;
  • an independent approach to conducting research.

The following will be considered an advantage

  • familiarity with one or several of the following techniques: terahertz spectroscopy and imaging, quantum-inspired sensing, optical biosensing;
  • expertise in image processing techniques, including denoising, super-resolution imaging, deconvolution, and multimodal data fusion;
  • hands-on experience with spectroscopy and imaging equipment: time-domain spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, confocal microscopy, etc.;
  • proficiency in AI and machine learning methods;
  • experience in computational modelling.
