Research Associate/Fellow - Chemical & Environmental Engineering

Research Associate/Fellow - Chemical & Environmental Engineering

University of Nottingham

Nottingham, United Kingdom

About the role

Applications are invited for a Research Associate/Fellow in the department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering to join an exciting project. The project is focused on developing previously identified polymers that show an ability to prevent bacterial biofilm formation on surfaces. The polymer has already been successfully CE-marked as a urinary catheter coating, and this project aims to further develop the commercial potential of the polymer coating. This role will mainly be focused on bacterial biofilm assays on polymer coated components but will also involve making coated samples prior to biofilm assays. The project will be hosted in the Advanced Materials Research Group and Biodiscovery Institute at the University of Nottingham, and there is a collaboration with a UK-based company to develop anti-biofilm components for potable water applications.

About you

Candidates must hold or expect to shortly obtain a PhD, or equivalent in in Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or similar Science / Engineering degree. Candidates must be able to demonstrate practical microbiological experience, use of the relevant characterisation/microscopy techniques used in the analysis of bacterial biofilms. Some experience or knowledge of polymer chemistry will also be preferred.
