Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, formulate and lead projects for maintaining and further developing Noble Gas related techniques and associated sampling strategies for the On-Site Inspection (OSI) Division, including the drafting, scientific steering, implementation and backstopping of international and/or multilateral projects;
  • Revise and maintain concepts of operation for the application of Noble Gas related techniques in the context of OSI, with a view of developing, testing and evaluating Noble Gas related hardware, software and integration measures;
  • Propose and implement procedures to optimize the operability of Noble Gas related hardware, software and integration measures within the constraints of the Treaty and under field conditions in synergy with other permitted inspection techniques;
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of available Noble Gas sampling, processing and measurement systems to provide technical and scientific guidance to the Section, and keep abreast of Noble Gas sampling, processing and measurement related research and its potential for OSI;
  • Prepare technical documents related to Noble Gas techniques and relevant input to the draft OSI Operational Manual and OSI Quality Management System documents by researching background data and synthesizing available information, including from relevant OSI activities such as expert meetings, field tests, exercises and training;
  • Liaise with the OSI Technical Officer responsible for the development of radionuclide particulate techniques to synergize both OSI methods into one seamless implementation scheme;
  • Act as point of contact with other Divisions and with suppliers on all required equipment supporting the Noble Gas techniques, and provide guidance to OSI consultants, as appropriate;
  • Contribute to integrating the results gained from other OSI techniques, such as near surface geophysics, geological and multi-spectral mapping including infrared, from visual observations and results derived from high resolution seismic methods to meet OSI objectives;
  • Participate in CTBTO OSI Division activities, including in the field, and be prepared to perform OSI duties in remote areas and under hardship on short notice;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education

  • Advanced university degree in nuclear physics, nuclear engineering or a related field.

Work Experience and Qualifications

  • At least seven (7) years relevant working experience in the field of radiation measurement and familiarity with hardware and software related to acquisition and analysis of field data;
  • A minimum of three (3) years of working experience in an international, multicultural environment;
  • Experience in planning, conducting and quality control of Noble Gas measurements and survey campaigns;
  • Development and operational experience on existing Noble Gas systems;
  • Ability to work with the utmost discretion in handling sensitive and confidential matters;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural team.

Languages

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential;
  • Knowledge of other official CTBTO languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) is desirable.
