Postdoc Position - Bright Attosecond Coherent Soft X-ray Generation and Time Resolved X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy (TR-XAS)

Max Planck Society

Berlin, Germany

The Department of Physical Chemistry of Prof. Martin Wolf is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our tr-XAS project developed in collaboration with Jens Biegert (ICFO, Barcelona). This position offers the exciting opportunity to develop a high-brightness attosecond coherent soft X-ray beamline and conduct time-resolved core-level soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy of condensed matter systems. The successful candidate will contribute to advancing the understanding of femtosecond structural dynamics in quantum materials and 2D van der Waals systems. This position is available immediately.

Requirements

  • Successfully completed PhD degree in physics or a related subject.
  • Broad background in solids state physics and ultrafast optics.
  • Excellent communication skills, and in particular good command of the English language.
  • Hands-on experience with ultrafast and nonlinear optics.
  • Programming skills: Python, Wolfram Mathematica etc.

In addition, research experience in one of the following fields is an advantage:

  • Ultrafast pulse characterization (e.g. SHG-FROG)
  • High harmonic generation in gases
  • Work with high vacuum (HV) setups
  • Solid state physics
  • CAD design (e.g. Solid edge)
  • LabVIEW
