We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Post-Doctoral Fellow to join our dynamic research team at the Botton-Champalimaud Pancreatic Cancer Centre.

This prestigious center is dedicated to advancing pancreatic cancer research and treatment through innovative approaches and multidisciplinary collaboration. The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge research aimed at understanding the molecular mechanisms of pancreatic cancer progression and developing novel therapeutic strategies.

Working within this state-of-the-art facility, you will have access to advanced technologies and a network of world-renowned experts in the field of pancreatic cancer.

The successful candidate will work within the Cancer Genome and Evolution laboratory led by Professor Vincenzo Corbo.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and conduct experiments to investigate pancreatic cancer biology, including tumor heterogeneity, cell signaling pathways, tumor microenviroement, and drug resistance mechanisms;
  • Develop and optimize in vitro and in vivo models of pancreatic cancer;
  • Generate and maintain patient-derived organoids for pancreatic cancer research;
  • Utilize patient-derived organoids to study drug responses, tumor heterogeneity, and personalised treatment approaches;
  • Analyze and interpret complex experimental data using advanced statistical and bioinformatics tools;
  • Present research findings at team meetings, conferences, and scientific symposia;
  • Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals;
  • Collaborate with other researchers and clinicians within the Botton-Champalimaud Pancreatic Cancer Centre and external partners;
  • Mentor and supervise junior researchers and graduate students;
  • Contribute to grant writing and funding applications;
  • Participate in translational research initiatives to bridge laboratory findings with clinical applications;
  • Engage in knowledge exchange and public outreach activities to promote pancreatic cancer awareness and research;
  • Prepare Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for laboratory techniques and experimental protocols;
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of quality management systems within the research facility.

Requirements

  • Research Field: Biological sciences;
  • Education Level: PhD or equivalent;
  • Excellent lever of English;
  • 1 to 4 years of experience.

Specific Requirements

Essential Criteria

  • Ph.D. in Cancer Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field;
  • Strong background in cancer research, preferably with experience in pancreatic cancer, pancreatic neuroendocrine cancer and RNA biology;
  • Expertise in molecular biology techniques, cell culture, and animal models;
  • Proficiency in data analysis, bioinformatics, and statistical methods using R or Python or equivalent language;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment;
  • Track record of scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with advanced imaging techniques (e.g., confocal microscopy, live cell imaging);
  • Familiarity with next-generation sequencing and multi-omics data analysis;
  • Experience in data analysis using R and/or python;
  • Knowledge of drug discovery and development processes;
  • Experience with grant writing and securing research funding.
