Postdoctoral Researcher - Single-Cell Genomics Platform
IOB - Institute of Molecular and Clinical Ophthalmology Basel
Basel, Switzerland
Single-cell genomics is revolutionizing our understanding of biology, from redefining our understanding of diverse cell types, to translating this knowledge to better understand disease states and their implications for therapeutics. The Postdoctoral Researcher will be part of the technology platform for single-cell genomics supporting the research groups of IOB.
Your responsibilities
- Develop and optimise advanced plate-based and emulsion-based protocols tailored for specialised NGS (Next-Generation Sequencing) applications in collaboration with IOB research groups and Facility team members.
- Operate and maintain high-precision laboratory instruments, including cell sorters, liquid handling robots, nanodispensers, sequencers, and high-resolution microscopes.
- Isolate and prepare single cells from diverse tissues and cultures, execute NGS library preparation workflows, analyse sequencing data, and critically evaluate experimental results.
- Lead authorship and contribute significantly to the preparation of scientific publications and conference presentations, highlighting novel findings and methodologies.
Requirements
- PhD in Molecular Biology, Computational Biology, Biotechnology, or a closely related discipline.
- A minimum of 5 years of research experience in genomics, with demonstrated expertise in the single-cell field.
- Proven track record in developing and implementing innovative single-cell sequencing methodologies.
- Advanced experience in analyzing single-cell sequencing datasets, including 10x Genomics, SMART-seq/FLASH-seq, ONT (Oxford Nanopore Technologies), and/or PacBio platforms, using R and/or Python.
- Strong enthusiasm and aptitude for establishing, troubleshooting, and refining experimental protocols and techniques.
- Hands-on experience in tissue processing (e.g., histology) and high-throughput microscopy is advantageous.
- Familiarity with programming, operating liquid handling robotic platforms, and cell sorting systems is desirable (training will be provided if necessary).
- Demonstrated ability to independently plan, execute, and interpret single-cell genomics experiments.
- Exceptional organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills with a proven ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English.
