Duties
The holder of this position is expected to develop scientifically-based tools to identify structural and functional indicators of biodiversity in forested ecosystems. These tools could be based on remote sensing or field data, but could also use genetic information and AI-based approaches. A close connection between empirical data and model development for more practical implementation across temporal and spatial scales within managed forest lands is expected.
The holder of this position shall
- act in accordance with the vision, goals, and basic values of SLU;
- contribute to the strategic development of the department and faculty;
- develop and lead internationally successful research within the subject area;
- publish scientific articles in international journals with peer-review;
- apply for external funding at national and international levels;
- supervise PhD students and postdocs;
- lead, develop, and participate in teaching and supervision of students at all levels;
- collaborate with researchers within the department, faculty, and other parts of SLU, as well as at national and international levels;
- collaborate and develop regional, national, and international networks;
- disseminate research findings; and
- fulfill administrative tasks within the department, the faculty, and the university.
Qualifications
The applicant must:
- have a doctoral degree within this subject or in an equivalent area of scientific competence;
- be scientifically skilled within the subject area for this appointment;
- be pedagogically skilled;
- have good knowledge of English.
Assessment criteria
Assessment criteria for appointment of a Senior Lecturer will primarily be based on the degree to which the applicant possesses the required qualifications specified for the position.
The assessment of scientific skills will consider:
- completed research activities and ongoing research within the subject;
- ability to independently initiate, lead, and develop innovative research;
- ability to attract external research funding in competition; and
- ability to supervise and examine at doctoral level and supervise postdocs.
The assessment of pedagogic skills will consider ability to:
- plan, conduct, and evaluate their own teaching at all levels;
- supervise and examine undergraduate and master level students;
- convey and implement their pedagogical vision;
- integrate research and scientific approaches in teaching.
The following skills will also be assessed:
- ability to manage, develop, and lead academic units and staff;
- ability to communicate and collaborate;
- ability to interact with relevant stakeholders and society; and
- ability to disseminate information on research and development projects.
The position will be offered to the person who, after a qualitative overall assessment, is assessed to be most suitable to carry out and develop the above-mentioned duties and to contribute to the positive development of the organization.
