The MPE is partner in the Euclid mission which has been selected for the Cosmic Visions Program of the European Space Agency. The mission investigates the nature of dark energy and dark matter by measuring the accelerated expansion of the universe using different independent methods. At the same time, the exquisite optical and NIR imaging and spectroscopic dataset allows to study galaxy structure and evolution with unprecedented precision up to redshift 2. The Euclid satellite is expected to be launched in 2023 and has a mission lifetime of seven years.
At MPE we offer a position centered on the exploitation of the incoming Euclid dataset, with focus on local galaxies and galaxy evolution. The candidate is expected to engage actively in one or several of the Euclid Science Working Groups.
All applicants should have a University degree in Astronomy or Physics. We presume good communication skills in the English language, the ability and willingness to work in an experienced and highly motivated multi-national team and the availability to participate in meetings and workshops in various locations in Europe.
