Senior R&D Scientist - Mucosal Drug Delivery

Cirqle Biomedical

Copenhagen, Denmark

Do you want to impact the future of contraception? Then we have an exciting career opportunity for you.

Cirqle Biomedical has shown that our non-systemic mucus engineering technology provides superior efficacy to traditional contraceptives in preclinical animal trials. This is enabled by our development of the first novel mechanism of action in female contraception in 60 years.

Recently we partnered with the pharma company Organon in a $360M deal to develop and commercialise our contraceptive technology. We are now growing rapidly and look for a talented scientist who has experience delivering macromolecules to mucosal tissues. In this role, you will be conducting preclinical research with a creative and ambitious research team preparing the technology for human clinical trials. At Cirqle, you will have the chance to work in a world class research environment, with unique in vitro and in vivo models.

What you’ll do:

  • Design gel formulations for the delivery of macromolecules, with controlled release kinetics and tissue residence time;
  • Design and conduct in vitro assays to support the development of the formulations;
  • Contribute to the development of the formulations by closely collaborating with other members of the research team responsible for the formulation, in vivo efficacy, and biocompatibility;
  • Analyze and present data to the research team and to management;
  • Document, report, and communicate your results to stakeholder.

Who you are:

  • You hold a PhD degree and ideally have 1+ years of research experience in academia or industry post-PhD;
  • You have experience with delivery of macromolecules to mucosal tissues;
  • Ideally, you have experience with topical gel systems, and understand the critical parameters that affect drug delivery;
  • You find large challenges exciting and enjoy discovering and defining problems as much as solving them;
  • You have an innovative mentality, with excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to turn ambiguity into clarity;
  • You deliver. You may enjoy thoughtful conversations about problems and perfecting designs, but in the end, you know that what matters is delivering a manufacturable solution that works every time;
  • You can demonstrate evidence of an exceptional ability to quickly design and implement things that work;
  • You love spending time in the laboratory, developing and conducting in vitro assays that will help achieve your goals.

What we offer:

  • An opportunity to change the world and work with some of the most talented scientist from different fields;
  • An inclusive culture and flat organisation providing you with a voice and potential for impact. You will report directly to the Head of Research;
  • Growth potential. We rapidly advance team members who have an outsized impact;
  • An attractive salary and compensation in company shares;
  • Flexible time off, lunch, dinner, and a pleasant working environment.

For this role, you will be based in Copenhagen working in state-of-the-art labs at the BioInnovation Institute.

Please apply as soon as possible by submitting your motivated cover letter, resume, relevant diplomas and a one page document describing a significant bioengineering challenge you took on. This document should at least cover these topics: whys/hows, in depth technical information, and your specific role. For more details, please contact Thomas Crouzier via careers@cirqle.bio.

Equal employment:
