The Department of Bioproducts and Biosystems of the School of Chemical Engineering invites applications for a University Teacher, University Lecturer or Senior University Lecturer position in bioprocess technology.
Bioprocess technology is the application of biological processes involving living cells or their components to effect desired transformation of substrates into products.
The lecturer in bioprocess technology is responsible for the teaching in the field of bioprocess technology with a strong emphasis on the technical aspects of the fermentation process including bioreactor operation, bioprocess control and modeling. Teaching includes both theory and practical aspects of bioprocess operations. The respective teaching activities are directed to bachelor’s and master’s level students. Additional teaching related tasks (supervision of BSc thesis works, organizing of and supervision of exams, etc.) are part of the duties. As a lecturer you also participate in the development and implementation of teaching in co-operation with other teachers and across fields. Depending on the career level of the selected candidate additional responsibilities in the administration and development of the curriculum can be assigned.
The selected candidate is expected to participate in research activities in the field of the lectureship at the hosting department and/or develop own research agenda. The targeted ratio for teaching and research tasks is 70%/30%.
Candidate’s positioning in the lecturer career system is determined by the qualifications of the candidate. Employment can be either fixed-term or permanent, depending on the career stage.
You have a PhD degree from a relevant field. You are an expert in the field of bioprocess technology using microbes or other cellular systems. You are experienced in operating bioreactors of different scales and in different operation modes. Preferably, you have complementing knowledge in the field of enzymatic transformations. Furthermore, you are familiar with bioprocess design and bioprocess control. Experience in bioreactor design, pilot or process scale fermentations or downstream processing is seen as an advantage.
Prior teaching experience in institutions of higher education and/or pedagogical training are considered an asset. Completion of pedagogical training is required for advancing in the career system.
Finnish/Swedish language skills are considered an asset.
