CISTIM (Center for Innovation and Stimulation of Drug Discovery) is supporting innovative research in order to promote the discovery and development of new potential small molecule therapeutics in collaboration with academic research groups and to stimulate technology transfer to biotech and pharma industry in this area. For the expansion of our research team in Leuven we are currently looking for a: RESEARCH SCIENTIST - ORGANIC/MEDICINAL CHEMISTRY IN VIROLOGY.
Job description:
We are currently looking for a research scientist in medicinal chemistry with at least 2 to 3 years’ experience in small molecule synthesis to support our activities in the field of virology in the context of the VirusBank Platform. More specifically, the candidate is expected to take responsibility for the selection and acquisition of compound libraries which will be used to screen for new antivirals and will be involved in antiviral hit compound identification. After establishment of the VirusBank Platform, the candidate will be involved in antiviral drug discovery programs, where he/she will be expected to perform medicinal chemistry and synthesize, purify and analyze new organic small molecules within a project in order to delineate and/or improve SAR and ADMETproperties with attention to IP. Growth to a senior or project lead position will be possible and also extension to other disease areas is foreseeable in the future.
Profile:
- You hold an academic degree (Master) in organic Chemistry or Pharmacy;
- You hold a PhD degree in organic Chemistry or Pharmaceutical Sciences, with a subject related to the synthesis of small organic molecules with therapeutic potential;
- Previous experience in medicinal chemistry in a company or in an academic lab with drug discovery activities is a requirement;
- You have a strong interest in scientific research and more specifically in organic synthesis;
- You are goal oriented and can handle deadlines and pressure;
- You are a team player who can operate independently;
- You are quality oriented, working with accuracy and paying attention to details (thorough analysis of NMR and LCMS spectra and biological data);
- You are communicative and fluent in English (oral and written); (Dutch or French are considered as an asset).
