The Instituto de Medicina Molecular João Lobo Antunes is seeking an expert in Veterinary Pathology to lead the Comparative Pathology Unit (CPU), a core facility that aims to provide comparative, experimental and diagnostic pathology support to iMM scientists using animal models of human disease, and scientists/physicians investigating human disease, according to their scientific question Scientific areas at iMM include oncobiology, aging and stem cell research, immunology, infectious diseases, cellular and molecular biology and neurosciences, among others.

The CPU Services are also available for extramural investigators, both nationally and internationally.

In addition to leading the Unit, the post holder will have the opportunity to engage in collaborations that may result in co authoring in publications and projects with other labs.

The CPU Director will report to Board of Directors and will be responsible for the following activities

  • Scientific and management leadership of the CPU facility;
  • Interaction with researchers to define the best methodology, experimental design, and data analysis;
  • Establishment of new protocols;
  • Training and coordination of the technical work of the team;
  • Histopathology reports and morphological phenotyping;
  • Writing scientific publications and grants;
  • Budget management;
  • Diagnostic services for the animal facility (mice, rats and zebrafish).

Profile of Candidate

  • Degree/MSc in Veterinary Medicine and formal training in Animal Pathology; PhD (preferred);
  • Publications in the area of Animal Pathology applied to research;
  • Experience with animal models (rodents, zebrafish) of disease;
  • Diplomates by the European or American College of Veterinary Pathologist will be given preference;
  • Previous experience in a similar role (preferred);
  • Fluent in English;
  • Communication skills, leadership, organization and method.
