Your mission:
The LACUS at the EPFL opens a position as a technical operator for this advanced time-resolved spectroscopy facility. The successful candidate will be given the responsibility to run and maintain the facility, enabling and assisting experiments carried out by research groups from within the EPFL as well as by external groups.
Main duties and responsibilities include:
The specific tasks will be:
- Installation, commissioning and maintenance of the Harmonium beamlines and existing facilities for ultrafast photoemission spectroscopy at LACUS;
- Maintain the laser systems powering the different setups;
- Contribute to experiments carried out within the LACUS;
- Participate in external user operation.
The position also offers the successful applicant the possibilityto develop her/his own ideas for facility upgrades and innovation to enable new scientific capabilities.
Your profile:
To be eligible, the candidate should hold a master degree or higher in physics or engineering and possess specific competence/interest in at least three of the four following topics:
- laser technology, with particular emphasis on ultrashort pulse lasers;
- bulk as well as guided optics;
- ultra-high vacuum technology; and
- radiation detector technology.
The following soft skills are considered necessary for carrying out the task related to the position:
- Basic programming in the most common languages used for interfacing scientific instruments: C++, Labview, Matlab, etc.;
- Basic knowledge of electronics and automatic control methods;
- Good knowledge of English; proficiency in French is considered beneficial;
- Natural aptitude towards team-working and planning.
