Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in the Synaptic Plasticity of Inhibitory Networks Research Line at Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia, under the supervision of Dr Andrea Barberis.
The CA1 region of the hippocampus has a central role in the integration and processing of afferent inputs from different brain areas. The research project will investigate the interplay among local inhibitory inputs and excitatory inputs from the entorhinal cortex and the amygdala in CA1 principal neurons of the hippocampus. Particular attention will be devoted to the study of coordinated excitatory and inhibitory postsynaptic plasticity involved in signal integration and networks refinement in the hippocampus. This project will benefit from promoter-specific viral vectors and opto-genetics in ex-vivo hippocampal slices from genetically-modified mouse models, by exploiting 2P calcium imaging and 2P neurotransmitter uncaging combined with electrophysiology.
The successful candidate should hold a PhD in neuroscience, biology, biotechnology, physics, psychology, engineering or comparable fields, and must have documented in-depth experience in neurophysiology or related disciplines.
Experience in electrophysiology, opto-genetics and stereotaxic viral injections will be highly valued.
Fluent written and verbal English communication skills are also required
