The Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry at the University of Helsinki invites applications for the position of a Postdoctoral Researcher for a fixed-term of two years (with a possibility for an extension) from June 2020 onwards (or as agreed) to work in a Strategic Research Council of the Academy of Finland funded project MULTA (Multi-benefit solutions to climate-smart agriculture) and in HiLIFE Grand Challenge Climsage (Climate-smart Northern Agriculture). MULTA is part of Finnish CarbonAction project that aims to implement the international 4permille initiative. The postdoctoral researcher will join a multidisciplinary team to study soil carbon sequestration and climate impacts of agricultural practices with a strong focus on soil processes of carbon stabilization.
Do you want to be part in solving the questions about stable carbon in soils? Tasks of the postdoctoral researcher will be 1) to plan and participate in state-of-the-art laboratory and field experiments on C sequestration and development of soil C analytics, 2) to analyze data, report and present scientific findings, and 3) to take an active role in group work and supervision of students to guarantee direct interplay between the experimental work and modelling.
We are seeking a highly motivated researcher with a Ph.D. in the subject area in biogeochemistry, chemistry, soil science, or other relevant fields. We value experience in using and developing methods for stable carbon indicators in the soil as well as willingness to utilize new tools to evaluate carbon stabilization processes. Also, experience in supervising MSc and/or PhD students, an excellent publication record and the ability to work independently as part of a multidisciplinary research group are essential.
