We are looking for a protein biochemist for the pre-clinical development of alphaSEPT: a novel signaling molecule within the human immune system. It is a potential first-in-class pharmaceutical to treat sepsis, an infectious disease with very high mortality rates and no causative treatment options available.

JOB DESCRIPTION

We develop next generation precision medicines for unmet medical needs. Our focus is the engineering of innovative immunomodulatory biologics. Within this endeavor, we have created alphaSEPT: a novel signaling molecule within the human immune system. It is a potential first-in-class pharmaceutical to treat sepsis, an infectious disease with very high mortality rates and no causative treatment options available.

The ideal candidate will drive early pre-clinical development of alphaSEPT. She/He will lead a small team working on production, biophysical characterization and development of alphaSEPT towards a biopharmaceutical ready for the clinics. The candidate will work in the lab in-house as well as with several academic cooperation partners at other institutions and contract research organizations (CROs).

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Selection of the lead candidate and further developments via protein engineering;
  • Protein expression from mammalian and bacterial cell cultures;
  • Protein purification via advanced techniques;
  • Biophysical characterization of proteins;
  • Formulation development for the biopharmaceutical;
  • Development lead of a master cell bank;
  • Leadership of a team, laboratory set-up, data analysis and presentations;
  • Establishing of standard operating procedures (SOPs).

QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD in biochemistry or related fields;
  • Substantial expertise in mammalian cell culture;
  • Substantial expertise in protein engineering, protein expression, protein purification and biophysical characterization;
  • Experience in (pre-)clinical development of biopharmaceuticals (e.g. formulation development) and molecular immunology is a plus;
  • Know-how in GLP and GMP requirements is a plus.
