As part of its dynamic research policy and supported by the possibilities offered by the Flemish Government through the resources of the Special Research Fund (BOF), the Faculty of Science is seeking to fill a full-time vacancy in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science for a full-time Tenure track research professor (TTZAPBOF) in the area of Modelling and Simulation of Cyber-Physical Systems
Both in research and in teaching, the department focuses on three areas: Data Science, Telecommunication and Distributed Systems, and Software Engineering. Complementary to these three areas, research is also conducted in Computational Mathematics.
The position is within the Sofware Engineering area, in particular, in the Antwerp Systems and software Modelling (AnSyMo) group. Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) are the main research focus of AnSyMo. CPS emerge from the networking of multi-physical (mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, biochemical, ….) and computational (control, signal processing, logical inference, planning, …) processes, often interacting with a highly uncertain environment, including human actors, in a socio-economic context. Software plays a pivotal role, both as a component in a CPS and in the construction of “enabling” modelling and simulation tools. AnSyMo is a research “core lab” of Flanders Make, the strategic research centre for the Flemish manufacturing industry, working on the foundations of “Industry 4.0”.
The three research pillars in AnSyMo are Formal Methods (Prof. dr. Guillermo Perez), Testing and Reverse and Re-engineering of Software and more broadly Empirical Software Engineering (Prof. dr. Serge Demeyer) and Multi-Paradigm Modelling and Simulation (Prof. dr. Hans Vangheluwe).
