Tenure-track Professorship “Chemistry Education”

The future post holder will represent the teaching methodology of chemistry in research and education. The applicant's research is expected to focus on an innovative field of chemistry teaching methodology (such as language-sensitive teaching, gender sensitivity in teaching and learning chemistry, digital learning environment, development of experimental skills or sustainable development). Willingness to collaborate with other areas of teaching methodology of the University of Graz as well as with members of the Institute of Chemistry with respect to teaching and research, in addition to participation in university committees is required.

Professional qualifications

  • Doctorate/PhD in the field of chemistry teaching methodology or in chemistry;
  • Experience as a post-doc researcher in chemistry education or in a comparable position;
  • Outstanding academic qualifications in research and teaching in the relevant discipline and for the profile of the professorship (relative to academic age);
  • Skills in higher education didactics;
  • Ability to attract third-party funds (desirable);
  • Teaching experience at secondary level (desirable);
  • Very good knowledge of English and experience with relevant English publications;
  • Gender mainstreaming competence.

  • Strong personal motivation for scientific excellence in research and teaching, plus the ability to inspire colleagues and students;
  • Ability to conduct autonomous research and to collaborate in research teams;
  • The successful candidate enjoys working with people in an interdisciplinary, internationally orientated environment;
  • Responsible attitude to work, resilience and problem solving ability;
  • Responsible attitude to work, ability to work under pressure, and problem-solving abilities.
