The Center for Synaptic Neuroscience and Technology of Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia at IRCCS San Martino Hospital (Genoa, Italy), is offering junior postdoctoral position within the Neuroscience and Smart Materials Research Line (NSYN webpage) for the project “High-resolution photostimulation strategies to rescue vision and alleviate geriatric frailty in age-related macular degeneration” funded by the Cariplo Foundation for the Call "Biomedical Research on Aging-related Pathologies" (grant 2018-0505; CUP J54I19001660007), under the supervision of prof. Fabio Benfenati.
We are looking for a talented postdoctoral fellow who will join our team to investigate neuronal interfaces with photosensitive polymeric nanoparticles for their ability to photo-stimulate neurons, retinal explants and in vivo retinas in experimental models of retinal degeneration. The studies will include the elucidation of the basic mechanisms of light-induced neuronal activation, and the electrophysiological analysis of the processing of visual information from the retina to the visual cortex. The candidate will join a very multidisciplinary team (from surgeons, to biologists, to physicists) with the final aim of translating a photosensitive nano-technology into a therapeutic tool. The successful candidate should have been trained during a PhD course in Neuroscience, Neurophysiology or similar subjects and have experience in cellular electrophysiology, immunohistochemistry, confocal microscopy and image analysis. Experience in in-vivo recordings will be also appreciated. Salary and benefits will be competitive and in line with international standards.
