Applications are invited for 1 Post-doctoral fellow to be involved in an industrial project for the design and development of sustainable and functional biopolymer composites for the food sector. The project is funded by an industrial partner, which is an innovator in the food sector.
The research activity will take place in the Smart Materials Research Line, at the central research facility of IIT in Genova, Italy. The research of the Smart materials Group deals with the development of new composite materials combining various synthetic or natural polymers and changing their properties by introducing nanofillers or organic molecules in the matrices. The main research lines of the Smart Materials Group are Green and Sustainable composites, Water Remediation, Sustainable Food packaging, Materials for Regenerative Medicine, Carbon nanomaterials composites, Smart composite materials for sensing, Surface engineering and adhesion, Multifunctional polymeric foams and aerogels, Smart Fabrics and Paper, Materials for Robotics, etc. Close collaborations and joint laboratories exist with industry, university departments, and other research centers in Italy and abroad.
One-year postdoctoral position in the design, engineering, development and characterisation of functional biocomposites. The developed sustainable composites will be used for the production of sustainable and functional materials adapted to the food sector needs.
The candidate must have a PhD Degree in one of the following areas: Material science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics, bioengineering or related. Experience with natural polymers and composites as well as engineering processes used in the plastics industry will be highly appreciated. An excellent track record of research publications and/or patents is also essential.
