Duties and Responsibilties

  • Assess the operation of radionuclide (RN) stations including: incident troubleshooting, preliminary evaluation, and classification of reports in terms of categorization of cause, fault diagnosis and problem resolution of IMS stations. Contribute to management and evaluation of the performance of IMS facilities, including maintenance and update of station records;
  • Prepare Post Certification Activity terms of reference for contracts for RN facilities and assist in the evaluation of the new proposals; evaluate the performance of the Station operators under those contracts;
  • Evaluate operational performance of IMS facilities. Verify and ensure that data produced is of acceptable quality, the stations is working within its certified operational specifications, and initiate corrective action if non-conformances are found and preventive actions to avoid non-conformances. Review the existing reports on stations problems to identify trends to improve the overall IMS network operations. Devise methods, tools and procedures to aid in these functions; interact as necessary with other sections and units in order to ensure smooth implementation of the operational tasks;
  • Recommend procedures and methods for monitoring of quality of data from newly developed noble gas monitoring stations, assist in developing and implementation of a quality assurance/quality control programme for noble gas systems; give training and coaching to new staff;
  • Recommend and implement plans to enhance procedures, rules and guidelines for Operations Officers; support the training of station operators and others from States Signatories as well as the testing and evaluation of IDC applications software;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Qualifications

  • University degree in nuclear science or a related field.

Work Experience

  • At least five (5) years relevant working experience, preferably at least two (2) years of which should have been in an international environment, with radionuclide spectra analysis, air monitoring, detection equipment, and environmental influences on radionuclide monitoring;
  • Experience with measuring radioactive noble gases in the environment would be an advantage;
  • A good knowledge of LINUX/UNIX operating systems and SQL, knowledge of PERL and/or other programming language is an asset.

Languages

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential;
  • Knowledge of other languages is desirable.
