Candidates should be educated to postdoctoral standard (or equivalent) in Nuclear Engineering, Nuclear Physics or a similar discipline of relevance to the nuclear industry and will have an established national/internationally recognised research reputation appropriate to the field and a strong track record in publications and relevant grant capture.
The Senior Research Fellow will conduct world leading and internationally significant research in predictive modelling for application in the nuclear sciences and with substantial evidence of quality and international peer recognition.
Predictive Modelling will be instrumental in leading the establishment of the University’s capacities in nuclear sciences. The appointee will contribute to an internationally excellent research group in the predictive modelling disciplines, focussed initially on the nuclear sector but identifying and pursuing opportunities to diversify. The appointee will actively support the Chief Investigator in developing new techniques within the framework of the overall research programme set out by the Ser Cymru Chair in Predictive Modelling and Nuclear Engineering. The appointee will contribute to the long term sustainability of the Predictive Modelling capacity and capability at Bangor University. The position is funded by the Welsh Government and the European Regional Development Fund under a proposal submitted to the Welsh Government by Bangor University and will deliver against the relevant aspects of that proposal.
The appointee will also contribute, under the direction of the Ser Cymru Chair in Predictive Modelling and Nuclear Engineering and the University’s senior management team, to regional development opportunities associated with the establishment of new nuclear capacity and will establish Bangor as a significant organisation in the development of predictive modelling expertise with its strategic partners in industry and governmental organisations locally, nationally and internationally.
The post holder will be responsible for leading on the planning/conducting/analysing and publishing of a series of experimental studies/field based studies/laboratory based studies under the overall direction of the Ser Cymru Chair in Predictive Modelling and Nuclear Engineering.
As a senior member of the group, the appointee will contribute to policy making, taking a lead in managing client relationships, preparing and negotiating proposals and project managing several projects identifying and leading on staff development and delivery as directed by the Ser Cymru Chair in Predictive Modelling and Nuclear Engineering.
