Conference Description
It is our pleasure to invite you to the 29th Thermodynamics Conference, taking place at Imperial College London from 13–15 September 2026.
Held biennially, this conference brings together researchers, industry professionals, and early-career scientists from across the globe to share advances, foster collaborations, and shape the future of thermodynamics.
Conference themes
The conference will explore the analysis and description of complex systems, spanning from the molecular scale to bulk matter.
Key themes include:
- Complex fluids and materials — liquid crystals, ionic liquids, polyelectrolytes, deep eutectic solvents, colloids, nanomaterials, and supramolecular assemblies;
- Energy and sustainability — clean energy technologies, carbon capture and sequestration, and green chemistries;
- Methods and techniques — novel experimental approaches, advanced characterisation of fluids and interfaces, and molecular simulation;
- Theory and computation — non-equilibrium thermodynamics, transport phenomena, phase behaviour, and predictive models enhanced by AI and machine learning;
- Biological and life sciences — protein folding, metabolic networks, and thermodynamics in living systems;
- Industrial applications — process systems engineering, optimisation, and scale-up of thermodynamic models.
