Job description

IRAM is seeking a highly motivated and skilled astronomer to work within the NOEMA Science Operations Group at IRAM headquarters (Grenoble). Applicants must have at least three years of postdoctoral experience, a proven track record of scientific research and observational and operational experience with single-dish radio telescopes and/or radio interferometers. The successful candidate will join a team of highly skilled scientists and engineers and will have access to state-of-the-art equipment and facilities for astronomical research.

IRAM offers opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations and a stimulating work environment where scientists cover a whole range of research topics, encompassing ISM chemistry, planetary science, young stellar objects, late-stage stellar evolution, and extragalactic research spanning across low and high redshifts. IRAM expects the successful candidate to possess well-defined scientific interests, pursue scientific programs using the IRAM facilities, and invest up to 50% of the time on astronomical research.

The key responsibilities for the position are:

  • Develop the provision of support to the scientific community, optimize scientific data analysis and processing workflows, oversee the integrity of scientific data and the operational efficiency of the NOEMA interferometer, collaborate with the science scheduler to ensure optimal program execution;
  • The candidate is expected to actively participate in efforts to improve and expand the capabilities of the interferometer. This includes proposing and implementing new features, optimizing existing processes, exploring innovative approaches to enhance the scientific productivity of the observatory.

Required profile

The candidate must possess excellent communication skills and be a team player. Experience in the operation of a radio-astronomical facility and working in an international research environment are highly valued.
