In the currently vacant position, the Tenure Track can be entered from the Associate Professor level onwards. At the end of the term, the merits of the person will be evaluated to determine whether he or she can proceed to the next level of the Tenure Track without public notice of vacancy. An Associate Professor can be invited to a professorship on the basis of expert statements.
The duties of the Associate Professor in Cardiovascular genomics include research supporting the research strategy of the A. I. Virtanen Institute. The person to be appointed to the position is expected to supervise doctoral dissertations and other academic theses, give lectures and other teaching at the Bachelor's, Master's and doctoral levels, be actively involved in the development of research, acquire funding, and participate in other tasks related to the activities of the university.
A person to be appointed as an associate professor in the tenure track shall hold a suitable doctoral degree and have good teaching skills. Furthermore, a person to be appointed as an associate professor in the tenure track shall have the prerequisites for fulfilling the qualification requirements of a professor by the end of the tenure track term (UEF Regulations 31 §).
The language requirements associated with the position are defined in the Government Decree 770/2009. Members of the university’s teaching and research staff are required to have command of the language they give teaching in (Finnish or Swedish). The Dean of the faculty may grant an exemption from the language proficiency requirements laid down in the Government Decree (UEF Regulations 33 §).
The person to be appointed to the Associate Professor position is expected to hold a doctoral degree and have scientific merits equivalent to those required of docents (adjunct professor). In addition the person should have good understanding of gene regulation processes and of the usage of the genome wide techniques in the research of cardiovascular diseases.
The position is filled for a fixed term from 1.8.2017 for four (4) years. The position is filled for a fixed term due to it being a fixed-term research and teaching position (Tenure Track).
